Baby Shower Centerpieces are the Heart of Your Decorating Theme

Baby shower centerpieces are the crowning jewel of your decorating theme. They can be as elaborate or as simple as you like. Elegant and upscale or cute and quirky; take your pick.

Swimming Rubber Duckys

This is one of my favorite baby shower centerpieces and is the perfect centerpiece for a rubber ducky shower theme. Take a clear glass bowl filled two-thirds with water and float rubber duckys in it. To make it prettier you could add some colored glass chips or stones in colors that coordinate with your theme. For an alternative, you could simply float the rubber duckys in your punch and have that as your centerpiece!

Fresh Flowers

Flowers are traditional for centerpieces for all occasions and they make lovely baby shower centerpieces for showers, especially for a more traditional or upscale baby shower. Of course, you can always order them from a florist, but you can make your own floral centerpiece easily. Use any type of container you want for the base and wedge a piece of oasis (florist’s foam) into the base. Simply snip flowers and stick them in the oasis. Fill the empty spots with baby’s breath or greenery. Tie a pretty bow around the container. If you are having a themed shower, you can stick in a rubber ducky, teddy bear, baby bottle, pacifier, or whatever.

You can also just set pots of flowers on the table such as daisies, tulips or mums. Or try filling a pretty bowl with water floating cut flowers in it. You might add a few floating candles for interest. Just have fun with it. You can’t mess up with fresh flowers.

Arranged Basket or Container

Baby shower centerpieces can be made out of almost anything you can think of that fits your shower theme. Take a basket, baby bath tub, or diaper bag and line it with a cloth diaper or receiving blanket. Arrange baby items such as baby lotion, baby soap, baby washcloth or towel, baby bottles, pacifier, or rattle in the item. If you are having a themed shower, insert something along that line such as a teddy bear or rubber ducky. To make it really special, pick up a little plant at the supermarket and tuck it in too. Tie a bow around the outside and BAM! It’s a centerpiece! And one the new mommy will like using.

Stuffed Animals

If you are having some type of baby animal theme, pick out a stuffed animal to build a centerpiece around. Tie a pacifier around its neck and lean it up against a potted plant. If your theme is Noah’s Ark, just use two of every animal you can find. If teddy bears are your theme and you know someone who collects them, see if you can borrow them for the shower. A couple of teddy bears setting at a little tiny table having tea would be cute as a table centerpiece for a baby girl. Use your imagination and stage the animals in a setting. Set a teddy bear in a little chair and stack wooden blocks and little cars next to him. That would be perfect for a baby boy.

Diaper Cakes

This is one of the most popular baby shower centerpieces around. A diaper “cake” is not really an edible cake, but it is a useful gift for the new mom. It’s a “cake” made from disposable diapers that looks like a one, two, or three or more layer cake; a little like a wedding cake. And tucked in between the diapers are little items the new mommy will find as she is using the cake, such as pacifiers, bottles, rattles, booties, and such. Then the whole thing is decorated with ribbons, bows, and baby toys. It’s a lovely reminder of the baby shower she can set in the baby’s room and use as needed. You can make your own diaper cake or they can be purchased online.
