Deciding on Whether or Not to Have Baby Shower Activities? Consider These First.

The nice thing about baby shower activities is that many times the mommy-to-be goes home with a keepsake such as a blanket, decorated baby clothes or birth beads.

If you chose not to play games, you may still want some type of activities to occupy guests and help break the ice. Depending upon the time and the type of activity, you may only need to have one activity for your guests.

Like playing games, whether you should have some sort of baby shower activities depends on a couple of things.

First, if most of the guests aren’t acquainted with each other, an activity makes a good ice breaker. Secondly, do you WANT to have baby shower activities? You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do at your shower. If you’d rather not have games or activities, then don’t have them.

Time Capsule

In the invitation, ask you guest to bring something that can be put in a time capsule, such as a newspaper, a popular CD, or something very trendy to represent our present day. Put all the items in a pretty hat box or box covered with pretty paper and give to the mommy-to-be. On the baby’s eighteenth birthday, the box will be opened to see what was in style when baby was born. This is one of the baby shower activities that will pay off in years to come.

Designer Baby Onesies

This is one of the baby shower activities that I think is fun. Buy a plain white onesies for each guest and several tubes of fabric paint (the puffy paint is fun). Have each guest create a work of art on her onesie. They can write their name, a wish, draw a picture, or anything to express their feelings toward the baby. Guests have lots of fun and baby gets lots of wacky onesies to wear around the house.

Wishes Do Come True

Give each guest a pen, a pretty little piece of paper, and a birthday candle. Have the guest write down a birthday wish for the new baby. Wrap the paper around the candle and tape in place. Place all the candles in a pretty little box or bag and give to the mommy-to-be. One candle is placed on baby’s birthday cake every year and the wish is read. If you have 12 guests, you’ll have a birthday wish for 12 years.

Sage Advice

Buy a pretty journal and a few colored pens. Pass the book around and let guests write words of wisdom on labor, childbirth, and child rearing to the new mommy-to-be. Some of the best advice isn’t learned in a class but from those that have been there and done that.

The journal is also a good place to write down the gifts and who gave them so the mommy-to-be will have a record when it comes time to write thank you cards.

In addition, as a fun thing to do you could have everyone write down their predictions as to date of birth, weight, length, color of hair, sex of baby, etc.

It would be a good idea to use a sticky note in the journal to show the guests where to write each thing. One could be labeled "Advice" and one could be "Predictions."
